La Oficina de Acción Humanitaria de la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) aprobó anteayer la activación del convenio de emergencias que mantiene con la ONG Acción contra el Hambre para distribuir alimentos a unas 250 familias en situación de vulnerabilidad en las Gobernaciones Sur y Nabatieh, en Líbano.
La actuación de emergencia, a la que la AECID aporta mediante este convenio 50.000 euros, consiste en la distribución de alimentos a 250 familias –unas 1.250 personas- la realización de sesiones de información sobre nutrición y buenas prácticas en alimentación infantil. Los lotes alimentarios cubrirán al menos el 73% de las necesidades alimenticias de una familia al mes. La subvención de la AECID se suma a otros fondos para posibilitar la intervención durante un periodo de cuatro meses, que comenzará de forma urgente.
SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA Y COVID-19
La crisis de la pandemia de la COVID-19 en Líbano ha tenido efectos limitados hasta la fecha en términos de salud pública, aunque los efectos socioeconómicos no han hecho sino agravar la situación de vulnerabilidad de la población más pobre que ya se había visto afectada por la crisis bancaria y económica del país.
La elevada subida de precios de los alimentos básicos ha tenido un efecto devastador entre la población más pobre. En 50% de de las personas libanesas encuestadas para el estudio del Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA), Assessing the Impact of the Economic and COVID-19 Crises in Lebanon - June 2020, expresaba su preocupación por no haber tenido suficiente acceso a alimentos durante el último mes. El Gobierno libanés ha aumentado sus programas de protección social debido a la vulnerabilidad exacerbada por la COVID-19 y la crisis económica.
ACCIÓN HUMANITARIA ESPAÑOLA
Con esta, son ya 19 las activaciones de convenios de emergencia con ONG realizadas por la AECID, desde marzo, para dar respuesta humanitaria a las crisis agravadas por el impacto de la COVID-19. La AECID cuenta con diversos convenios de emergencia suscritos con ONG que permiten su activación con carácter de urgencia para dar respuesta inmediata a la población vulnerable en caso de necesidad.
