El Secretario de Estado de Cooperación Internacional y para Iberoamérica (SECIPI), Fernando García Casas, ha comparecido hoy ante la Comisión de cooperación internacional para el desarrollo del Senado para inaugurar la ponencia de estudio sobre la Agenda 2030 para el desarrollo sostenible y los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS).
El Secretario de Estado ha afirmado que la Agenda será el plan estratégico de la humanidad hasta el año 2030, el cual, exige unir fuerzas para hacer frente a los retos globales. Dada su amplitud y ambición, ningún actor por sí solo podrá cumplir con los ODS, por lo que es necesaria una nueva alianza mundial para el desarrollo sostenible.
Fernando García Casas ha explicado a sus señorías que España ha sido especialmente activa en el proceso de negociación conducente a la aprobación de la Agenda de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, tanto en el plano nacional como en el internacional.
Asimismo, el Secretario de Estado ha hecho referencia al reto que supone la implementación de la Agenda 2030, no solo para España, sino también para otros estados miembros de Naciones Unidas y diferentes organismos internacionales entre los que figuran la propia Naciones Unidas y la Unión Europea.
En lo que se refiere a la implementación a nivel nacional, y teniendo en cuenta que la aplicación de dicha agenda excede del ámbito competencial del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación, García Casas se ha referido a la creación de una arquitectura institucional de carácter supra ministerial que coordinará la aplicación de la Agenda 2030. Ha recordado, asimismo, que el pasado 5 de mayo, el Consejo de Ministros nombró un Embajador en Misión Especial para la Agenda 2030.
Finalmente, además de ofrecer sugerencias a la ponencia para ampliar y enriquecer sus trabajos, el Secretario de Estado ha afirmado que, entre los actores de la implementación de la Agenda, el Parlamento es un elemento clave, tanto como representante de los ciudadanos como por representar las diferentes sensibilidades de una sociedad moderna, compleja y plural.
