Esta semana llega a Ciudad de Guatemala el cargamento de ayuda de emergencia, enviado por la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), con 105.350 test de antígenos COVID-19, donados por el Ministerio de Sanidad español.
El Gobierno de España responde con esta ayuda a la solicitud bilateral, remitida por el Ministerio de Sanidad Pública y Asistencia Social de la República de Guatemala, cuyos Centros de Salud se encontraban prácticamente desabastecidos de pruebas diagnósticas a finales del mes pasado.
El Ministerio guatemalteco distribuirá los test –valorados en 474.075 euros-, especialmente, en el Área de Salud Guatemala central para poder diagnosticar oportunamente a los pacientes y reducir los casos graves y de fallecimiento por el coronavirus.
El envío forma parte de la iniciativa Team Europe, por la cual la Unión Europea aportará el 75% de los gastos de envío de la ayuda de emergencia.
Guatemala presenta una incidencia acumulada de COVID-19 de 1,553.9 casos por 100,000 habitantes, y una tasa de mortalidad de 49 fallecidos por 100.000 habitantes.
Mientras, el número total de camas en el país para casos severos es de 547, cuyo nivel de ocupación a finales de mayo era del 76%.
