Como inicio de una agenda de cuatro días en la ciudad neoyorquina, Pedro Sánchez participó el pasado lunes en el acto We Decide. Mujeres y Jóvenes con discapacidad, un programa a favor de la igualdad de oportunidades y por una vida sin violencia, en el que ha querido expresar el firme compromiso del Gobierno de España con la lucha contra la violencia de género y la defensa de los derechos humanos, en particular de los derechos de los colectivos más vulnerables, como las mujeres y los jóvenes con discapacidad. Además, el presidente Sánchez ha explicado las iniciativas de su Gobierno para proteger a los menores y, en concreto, el proyecto de ley de protección integral frente a la violencia en la infancia.
Este foro, impulsado por el propio presidente y organizado por el Fondo de Población de Naciones Unidas (FNUAP), tiene por objeto promover el empoderamiento de mujeres y jóvenes con discapacidad, en el ejercicio de sus derechos de salud sexual y reproductiva.
Durante el acto, presentado por la española Ana Peláez, miembro del Comité de la ONU contra la discriminación contra las mujeres, se ha presentado el primer estudio global sobre discapacidad, violencia de género y salud sexual y reproductiva, que ha sido financiado en su totalidad por la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), con un coste total de novecientos mil euros.
El estudio realiza un análisis del estado de la discriminación y la violencia sexual y de género en estos colectivos y el impacto en su salud y derechos sexuales y reproductivos, así como una valoración detallada del marco legal y político, acompañado de recomendaciones para los Estados miembros, la sociedad civil y el sistema de Naciones Unidas en la prestación de servicios a las víctimas con discapacidad.
