As a public instrument, the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation (FCAS) is committed to the transparency and accountability of its results.

Most of the Fund's programmes are currently being implemented. Among its advances and results achieved in recent years, FCAS achieved an improvement in its implementation capacity in 2020. EUR 723 million out of the total donations had been allocated, representing 90,55% of implementation. Continued efforts will be needed to continue implementing the remaining funds in coming years, as well as the new approved programmes.

Final reports and evaluations of programmes completed and implemented up to 2020 estimate that more than 3.6 million people have benefited from FCAS; 3.1 million people have gained access to new or renovated drinking water services, and 1.2 million to sanitation services. More than 843,000 people now treat their wastewater thanks to FCAS.

The commitment to the human right to water and sanitation continues to gain momentum. In recent years, a report on the enforceability of the human rights to water and sanitation and a checklist for the implementation of human rights in water and sanitation projects have been published.

FCAS has made major efforts in the area of community and social development to strengthen the sustainability of its interventions. More than 3 million people have participated in awareness campaigns on hygiene and water resources management.
