Discrimination against women and girls and the feminisation of poverty remain universal and multidimensional realities in today's world. Despite progress made in the last decades to apply the principles of CEDAW, the Beijing Platform for Action and UN Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, we must not forget that, in the interest of efficient aid, the fight against poverty and to achieve sustainable human development requires promoting equality between men and women in a consistent way.
Defending women's rights and gender equality is one of the signs of identity of Spanish cooperation. The Spanish Cooperation Fourth Master Plan (2013-2016) reaffirms this commitment and includes it as a priority objective with a transversal approach.
