Under the framwork of International Migrants Day, this event provides an opportunity for a dynamic and inclusive debate on migration issues in the Americas. The panel will build on the recent publication "International Migration in the Americas" by the Organization of American States and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - which provides information to guide the search for answers on issues such as: Why is migration increasing in the Americas? What is the unemployment rate of emigrants from the Americas in their destination countries? Among others. The debate seeks to contribute to build bridges between diverse actors involved in migration in the countries of origin, transit and destination of migrants from the Americas.
The Publicacion "International Migration in the Americas" (SICREMI, its acronym in Spanish) aims to contribute to the monitoring of international migration movements in the region through rigorous and up-to-date information on migration flows. It also covers the principal policies and programs which the governments of the hemisphere direct towards an ever-growing migrant population, both in the countries of the Americas themselves and in the countries of destination to their emigrants.
